Car cutting out after re-fuelling

For the second time after filling up at Tesco's, my Renault Megane started spluttering, only this time it completely died. I had to abandon it at the side of the road. Went back two hours later and it started fine. Is this another of those contaminated fuel type stories? Thought that had all been dealt with.

For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.seems strange how it only does it when you fill up with fuel you are putting the correct fuel in i hope.could be to do with the immobiliser which is switched off when you unlock the car,try a new battery in the remote key fob this may help,also could be small particles in the fuel tank which get disturbed/swished around when you fill up & then settle after a while,a new fuel filter may help other than that you'll need to get it checked out at a garrage.
if it was contaminated there would 100s of complaints..not just you..Unfortunately when that did happen a while back there were a lot of people blaming there car problems on it when it had nothing to do with it, there were only a small number of forecourts affected yet they had calls from all over the country when word got around....compensation culture ..!!

Is the car fully warmed up when you fill up Carolrhart or are you arriving at the pump after a short drive from home after starting the car from cold? If so, then it could be that the engine is warm enough for the cold start to shut off but the engine is still too cold to run by itself without the cold start. Once you have left the car to cool down again then the cold start functions again and the engine will run properly.
I had this problem several years ago with a Jaguar. The automatic choke worked from a sensor on the exhaust. If I drove the mile to my local filling station when the engine was cold it just wouldn't start again as the choke had come off but the engine was still cold. I would have to leave the car at the pump for thirty minutes after which it would start again fine.
