ohhhhhhhhh i love questions like this i have absolutely no idea but now i want to know lol
Aglet
Aglet's right - but I call mine.."frayed"!!
You used to be able to buy new aglets for your laces - which seems a complete nonsense. Pliers were required, and scissors to trim the sticking out end.
Is that true??? Why not just buy new shoe laces??? : )
Exactly so. Maybe there was a shortage of shoe lace materials.

Thankfully, I have found something to back me up - I would have lain in bed wondering if I'd been having weird dreams.

"In the days when aglets were made of metal, most shoe repairers were able to supply and fit replacement aglets"

Great! It'll make a nice Scrabble word one day.

A few weeks ago I bought a new bike because the bits that needed replacing (pedals, gear shifter, saddle, lock, labour) added up to not far off the cost of Halford's cheapest bike.

I wonder if in a few years people'll be saying, "you used to be able to buy new pedals for your bike"!!!
