Pigs Ears and Puppy

Hello, we got a labradoodle puppy last weekend - she is 10 wks old and her breeder was letting her have pigs ears to help with the teething. How often can she have them? Cheers

Depends on your bank balance! They are like gold dust at the moment, apparently they were being snapped up by the Chinese during the Olympics as they eat them!

We have not been able to get our usual supplies, and they have gone up by about �6 for 50, thats if you can find any. We now sell a net of 50 for �20, whereas they were only �15 a couple of months ago.

As to feeding them, you could give one a day, depending on the size of your dog, although some dogs make them last longer. They will do no harm at all, and they help them to get rid of their baby teeth and push the adult ones through nice and strong. By far our biggest seller.

I'm lucky here, girls - my pigs are soon to become pork & bacon, so my dogs will have a plentiful supply (gently roasted for them!). They love them.

Our boxers used to love pigs ears. I shouldn't think they are too rich but one of our boxers would chew them until softened and then try to swallow them whole. Almost choked once so we stopped buying them. Just thought I would let you know to keep your puppy in view when she is chewing one.

Sandmaster - although every dog I have had has safely enjoyed pigs ears, I knew a boxer who just couldn't manage to eat them without choking. His snout/teeth/jaw just didn't seem to be able to bite pieces off and he ended up gumming the whole thing into a slithery mess which he then tried to swallow - not good and the poor guy seemed to get frustrated trying to eat it as sucessfully as his playmates!
Upsydaisy - I can only imagine how cute your little pup must be and I reckon the ears will be lovely for her to chew on to help with her teething. It is also worthwhile remembering to reduce the dinner you give her based on the amount of treats she gets.
