Inside the house there was a cupboard...

I'm looking for a children's book that basically went;

'there once was a road and on the road there was a house and in the house there was a staircase on down the staircase there was a cupboard...etc etc'

It culminates in there being a ghost in a cupboard. I really want the book for my nephew, anyone have any ideas of the title?
