Freddie 'Parrot Face' Davies was a holiday camp comic who shot to national fame after appearences on 'The Val Doonican Show' and 'Opportunity Kncoks'.

It's a sign of how much tastes and subtlety in humour have changed - Mr Davies' habbit of pulling an overlarge bowler hat over his ears, and gurning at the camera raspberrying "I Thhay....parrott faittth!" used to send the watching nations into paroxysms of glee - these days you'd get bottled off as a stand-up if ytou tried something as obvious and 'one-trcik' as that.

No matter - Mr Davies has had a successful film and TV career, and is now available as an after-dinner speaker.

My brother and I used to really annoy my Mum all the time rasping and lisping the song he sang: "My name is Thamuel Tweet from the Pet Thshop down the thtreet, my friendth all call me Tham......etc"
