Not so sure you buy for each other!

It's a nice idea that you want to buy her a wedding present - although not too sure naming a star after her is the right present to go for!!

In principle, the idea of having a star named after yourself is a really nice one. But the only people who are going to know about it are yourselves. The star will always be known by it's scientific name. Astrologers aren't going to start calling a star 'Gemma' for example!! Also, it might be pretty hard to actually find the star that is supposed to be hers!! It's not often in this country we see a sky full of stars! And it might be a problem knowing for sure which one is hers!!

As for alternatives for what you could get, i'm not too sure, just thought I'd give you my opinion on the star thing!!

Hope everything goes well for you both though and I'm sure she'll love whatever you decide to buy her!!

As a married couple, you will face trials and tribulations.  I once prepared a set of vouchers for my wife's birthday (promises of specific presents, foot massages, no domestic chores for a period, romantic home cooked meals, certain mutually enjoyable moments, an argument winning trump card, a pass (20 passes?) for a night out etc etc).  You could adapt the theme with 'use by' dates over the next 50 years....

Corny but touching, and within your budget

Here are my suggestions.

You could buy her a small tree, and you can both watch it grow over the years.

You could buy her a 'title' and make her a real lady (see ebay)

A hot air balloon trip

Get somebody to buy memorabelia on your wedding day for you....ie  a news paper.

Some unusual item of jewelry which she will always keep and treasure. Necklace and unusual pendant?

I arranged for a harpist to play at our wedding as my present to my wife......did cost around 300 - but a piantist would probably be a lot cheaper

how about asking a pianist to play 'your song' at the reception
I always thought it was a bit daft buying each other a wedding present to be honest - you're giving yourself to each other on your special day, which means more than any gift could.   Seems a bit of an American idea that's caught on over here to me. That said, I like the treee/sapling idea.  My friends got this as a gift when they got married and planted it in their garden.   It's lovely to watch it grow over each year of their marriage.
My husband and I bought each other gifts for our wedding, we were told that it wasn't really traditional for the bride and groom to buy for each other, but that's what we wanted to do, so we did it!  Our gifts to each other were jewellery, but I have to say that I love Bangkok's idea of preparing vouchers for your bride to be. It's a lovely thought, and one I wish I had had (though I'm not sure about the argument winning trump card, bangkok!!!!!!!!).  Good luck on your big day and I'm sure she will love whatever you choose for her.
