A scotch my father used to love that was drunk by Scots but you couldn't get in most shops in UK was Black Bottle. HTH
I fell in love with Auchentoshan when I visited the distillery just outside Glasgow - here's a link to their website - http://www.scotlandwhisky.com/distilleries/low lands/218698

I doubt if you'd be able to get hold of this particular one anywhere other than in Glasgow (but don't hold me to that, I've just not seen it in the shops down here).

Do you know what sort of scotch your friend actually likes - they vary greatly in taste, smoothness and aroma - and it would be nice to get one s/he would probably like !

If you can't decide, then I would recommend one of these fine single malts (ok they are available but not cheaply):-

Highland Park
The Balvenie
Talisker
Jura
Tobermory
Oban
Dalwhinnie
Glenmorangie
mrtonly likes a malt and they are the ones
that Juggs has posted ..as he said they
are not cheap ..but a one off pressie ..
who cares ...enjoy your weekend ...
glenlivit 1990 58 quid

balvenie single barrel 15 year old 38 quid

bowmore 16 year old 42 quid

bruichladdich 1989 cask strength 37 quid

These are fair priced they can be easily upwards of 100 quid to well over 200 quid .

I doubt it does danglee ... unless AngloScot really wants to spend upwards of 37 on a present....

AS - you can buy all of those lovely single malts - not as old mind - from about 25 per bottle (sometimes even cheaper). I am currently imbibing a rather nice ten year old Glenmorangie which I got in my local supermarket for 18.99.....
I go 100% with Coccinelle - Black Bottle is far better than anything advertised on telly or rugby shirts. The best standard blend by a mile. J & B comes second.
But for a very ultra-special single malt, there is only one. Springbank! Distilled in Campbeltown and aged a minimum of 10 years (15 is better) this is the true nectar of the Gods.
