is it possible set the xbox to a time limit...? short of that, i will obviously just unplug it and hide the controls....! TIA

If you are referring to the xbox 360 I believe xbox are releasing an update (providing the xbox has access to an internet connection) which includes advanced parental controls including setting a time limit on the console.
