Why is Pakistan uncooperative?
7 Answers
But new President Asif Ali Zardari told parliament that Pakistan would not tolerate any infringement of its territory in the name of the fight against militants. A series of U.S. strikes on militants along the Pakistan-Afghan border have infuriated many Pakistanis
Why are they being so uncooperative, Isn't it now time for the Pakistan Goverment to join forces with NATO, and help to rid the Border lands of Pakistan & Afghanistan of al Qaeda and the Talaban and their training bases, even if this means allowing U.S. air and ground strikes on Pakistani territory?.

Zardari is in a very tenuous position. He's just recently assumed power, his hold isn't that strong, and if he does anything drastically unpopular he could be removed easily. He has to tread very carefully.
I agree though, any progress in the FATA has to come from Pakistan. The good news is they could really weaken the insurgents by doing things that should've been done a long time ago (such as investing in infrastructure, shelter etc.) The Americans and British will likely just strengthen the Taliban's support in North-West Pakistan if it goes on like this.

I know one thing will never stop towards Pakistan whatever Pakistan do, that is Do More from Americans and allies. This question proces the same thing. Even if Pakistan kills its half population still Americans would never be satisfied as that is the most important part of the agenda. Tribal and surrounding areas population is over 8 million. Although almost all of the men there carry weapons but of course all of them are not terrorists. Even the think tanks in America have started saying that Mr Bush should differentiate between Al Qaeeda & and Tribal people. Americans are not willing to think about it but Pakistan will have to reconsider their blind attachment with America in this so called war on terror. Zardari & CO only came in the power due to this slogan that Musharaf was following America blindly. Now lets see what they can do. Pakistani people are facing three dimensional terrors.
1. A hand full of extremist who I have no doubt is backed by American and anti Pakistan agencies.
2. America itself, where they are firing missiles from drones. Just imagine a plane flying over your houses in the middle of the night with no one sure that who would be the target, would you be able to sleep?
3. Pakistani army, who are trying to prove to Americans that they are doing the job what they are being paid for.
Pakistani govt will have to adapt and think about Pakistani interests before American interest.

At last the yanks have got their priorities right. By having the war in Afghanistan is just killing the foot soldiers of the Taliban an Al Qaeda. The real threat is from its leaders in the tribal border areas of Pakistan where even Bin Laden is said to hole up. The Americans have had some success in the last few months in killing senior Al Qaeda figures in that region. That is why the allies are meeting such strong resistance so if they stopped now the war could go on for a very long time.
