Update Icon in Tray - don't understand
2 Answers
Hi, it's me Moggie again
In the tray at bottom of my desktop next to clock a little yellow shield keeps appearing and when I click on it it shows a % downloaded - I understand that as I have downloads automatically set.
Since I have reinstalled my PC after it crashed everything is working ok except that when I go online (I am on dial up) the little shield appears for say 10 mins and shows say 50% downloaded - then it disappears with out any action on my part and then (don't know what prompts this) suddenly re-appears after I close down another program I am using and seems to have still been downloading the updates whilst it has not been showing.
Now, I have right clicked on the tray and gone into customise icons and set it at 'hide unless in use' and applied this, but it makes no difference. Also, if I go offline - the next time I switch on it seems to have started at a lower % figure! Does this mean it is starting from the beginning again?
I have set my updates to automatically download and install on a Saturday, but it takes no notice of this. I am really confused now. Can anyone assist me please?
Thanks
Moggie

You could go to the Windows Update website, go through that to reassure yourself that your computer is fully up-to-date, and then automatic update can start from a clean slate, so to speak.
