battered chips?

new chippy opened up in rugeley on sea last week and i have sampled their produce tonight and they gave me bloody battered chips??? WTF??

is this a national thing that i dont know about??

Sounds like a heart attack in a bag!!!

I have had potato cakes from a chippy that are basically mashed spuds in a ball fried in batter. A bit like a fish cake without, errrrr, the fish.

I do like batter bits though on top of my chips. Plenty of salt'n'vinegar washed down with with a nice flat ale.

Battered chips used to the norm where I live - they looked quite yellow. Fabby stuff - and they haven't killed me off.
