fitting a bath/shower screen

i have to fit a half framed 4mm glass bath/shower screen, the wall behind has only plasterboard and no batton to screw into. do I need to put a batton in or is it ok/possibe to fix it on to the plasterboard?

I take it that its a stud wall?, you could try platerboard fixings or even better toggle bolts. You may also want to use some silicone if the fixings arn't good.

Chris is quite right............you may be lucky and it'll hold. I wouldn't take any chances though, with a heavy glass screen being constantly opened and closed. This sounds a bit drastic, I know, but, I would cut out a section of plasterboard - enough to fit a couple of "noggings" - ie horizontal bridging pieces between the vertical studs.
Mark where they are, replace the plasterboard, and tile over - taking the tiling beyond the line of the bath. Then you can fix the screen through the tiles and into the new timber.
