How about as a penalty we take a criminal's passport away from them for a year or two.
I have always lived an honest life, yet get annoyed at seeing criminals being found guiltly yet seem to serve almost no punishment.
With foreign holidays such a perk, how about depriving them of that for a number of years. It might at least make them think twice next time.

I am almost quite pleased that he cannot go as it may make him think twice before commiting a crime in the future.
It is about time that people who commit crimes were made to suffer a bit as there seems to be so little effective punishment nowadays.
Missing out on a family holiday may be one small punishment that may make them think twice.
