my mother would like to ask if you remember: the old accordions cos i used to sing i take you home again Kathleen to all of my home family and do you remember the penny arrow bar the old curly whirly and the huge gobstoppers that changed colors the sherbet with white powder in side and the bread van that used to come around and the bag of scarps you got from the fish shop, and when i went to sunday school i used to get a stamp
and do you remember the old spinning tops and the jack in the box, possible you may have played knockey ido too.

yes i remember most of that and getting a bath in a tin tub in front of the fire

Yes, I remember all of that.

And the dustmen with their huge open galvanised 'baths' that they used to empty the dustbins into, hoist over their shoulder and carry to the dustcart. That was a very messy job in those days.

Oh, that song "I'll take you home Kathleen" was my old Dad's favourite and brings tears to my eyes just thinkling of it!! and yes I remember all of those things except the scarps as we were not allowed chips!

Scarps were called scraps or batters, depending where you lived.

Yes I remember all that too when man on motor bike used to come round with a trailer selling all bits and bobs shoe laces ect we used to call him woolies as it woolworths and we used to get a gold fish for rags.And my mother used to send me to bakers for a freshly made plain loaf and I used to strip the sides and eat it on the way back.And we were happy and never got bored like some of the kids nowadays my grandson has all the uptodate games and he still says IM BORED. Don't care what any one says THOSE WERE THE GOOD OLD DAYS

I can just about remember the 'pop man' with his open sided lorry and all the bottles rattling. If you gave him back an empty bottle you got 10p or something like that.

weren't allowed Pop either, but had Vimto when we stayed at my aunt's. Anyone remember Gongers? they were big round chocolate honeycombe thingies on sticks (my mum never knew I spent my dinner money on them!)
