if it is your scanner .... or it could just be windows - obviously the more there is ... the longer it will take - and 40 - 160 is a big jump.
and presumably - if the original disk is 40 - it's not going to be the fastest
a min isn't bad (mine takes more) - the main thing is what it's like when it's running.
download http://www.ccleaner.com/download
run it once a month or so - defrag and check for errors every other month ... and keep the disk with at least 20% free space (shift photos and music to dvd or a usb HDD)512 - don't go mad
if your RAM is less than 256 - consider that as your next upgrade
increase to 256 or 512 - but don't go mad too much ... and you could slow things down
and that's as much as you can do

theres a point under the mother brd looks like a ram point, hav no idea whats it for, was hoping it was for a cpu upgrade,
anyway yeah i dont know much but i know i love u lol song sorry,
no i dont no much but i enjoy this stuff, like to know how things work, yeah and im old lol,

I think AC's pulled... do hope jojo is female :)
Actually you probably could upgrade your CPU but realistically speaking on a 5yr old machine you would have trouble finding a CPU upgrade as it would have to be old stock or second hand and on a 5yr old MB just not worth it.
I think the most important point AC made was does it run fast enough for you once it is up and running? if it does then you haven't a problem.... 1min to start is pretty damm good actually, you should count your self lucky mine take a fair bit longer too.
I agree that your doing pretty well to change your primary HD and get the system all up and running again.

right thanks i really thought i could not upgade the cpu, the pc is working ok just that it does run alot more at 100% then it did b4,
overall im happy with it,
that point under the mother brd is that for my cpu then?
i was going to get a new one, but it was just slow and ive looked after it, no marks on it, selling it well a fiver i bet,
ill hav a look for a cpu,
thanks again.

no the extra socket is not for a CPU upgrade, and I really wouldn't suggest paying for one on a 5yr old board, it's probably possible but I'd only do it because I can occasionally get an appropriate CPU free due to work.
you said it looked like a memory slot? there is generally not much other than memory slots that look like them
could you describe it a bit more?

hi
i hav picture of it would hav been nice to put on here, so ill try to say what it looks like,
just under the click pad top of the HD, its about 3in long wiv clips like the ram has, the piece in the middle looks about 2in long and takes pins, a far few holes, i can see part of the mother brd
soz best i can do,
but thanks to both for the help, and i will not bother upgrading the cpu.
