have had an engagement ring made and ive noticed (after paying) that the surface of the ring is all like scuffed looking. took it back to have it repolished and it looked fine in the shop, so we left happy, but in different light i can see its just as bad as before. any idea what the problem could be. im very upset as it wasnt cheap, but dont know if i have a leg to stand on as we have paid for it now and had it a couple of weeks.

Take it back and show them outside the shop in natural light...tell them you are not happy with it and want it sorted out, if they dont want to I would take it up with the manager..good luck

When you say the surface of the ring do you mean the stones or the band? If it is the stones you should demand a replacement,if it is the band then they should be able to polish out any scratches if they are competent jewellers.

It sounds as if they have done very shoddy work,demand they put the stones in a new band,threaten to take them to the small claims court and report them to trading standards if they refuse.In fact,contact trading standards in your area anyway and see what legal recourse you may have.I hope you manage to get it sorted out.
