Please help, is Amaretto or Amoretto correct and why?
Have -M-R-T-O (8 letters) Prefer the latter.

Depends on the clue
Amaretto is an almond liquer
Amoretto is another word for cupid

Apology; the clue was " Arty child about to break into a cracker's content " (8)

Amoretto is a cupid, the type of cherub you see in old paintings, hence 'arty child'
And of course a motto is what you find in crackers, with re inside. So definitely amoretto
