How does a chemical damp proof course work?

It is a sustance which resists/repels water and is absorbed into the bickwork or concrete. If installed correctly will work fine but a physical barrier (eg slate or bitumen) is generally much better.

Chemical damp-proof courses used in properties where there is no damp-proof course, or where the original damp proof course has broken down. A traditional damp-proof course is best, but obviously this means major building work. The builder drills a row of holes a few inches deep into the wall ' (but not all the way through) and then flushes them out with water. Then the chemical injection mortar is pumped in to cause a chemical reaction that produces crystals that drive out moisture.
