Feeling love-sick!

I've fallen completely head over heels for a guy on my course, I just think about him constantly.
I don't know if he knows I like him. I always smile really warmly to him, and sustain eye contact, as he does with me, but conversation wise things are sometimes a bit awkward because neither of us know what to say.
Is the conversation thing something that just progresses as time goes on, or when two people are meant to be together, is conversation usually flowing from the offset and not awkward? I have such strong feelings for him that I just feel so under pressure when I talk to him, which probably makes things more awkward than they should be.
What should I do?

When I was at college, many moons ago, I always spoke less to the one(s) I really fancied - too afraid of making a prat of myself so I kept my mouth shut. Consequently the one I really liked didn't think I liked him coz I hardly ever spoke to him. Whereas I found speaking to the ones I didn't fancy easier.
Looking back it was all so awkward, but it sounds to be you are making progress; albeit slow! Stick with it, try & be as natural as possible - he's probably that nervous about making a prat of himself, he's not going to notice if you do.
