jno, is that the RMT Bosses or the Rail bosses or perhaps both?
Quite how your argument answers R1's question I dont know. What has the pay of any bosses got to do with it? R1 is clearly questioning the timing of such a demand which given the current climate shows the sheer arrogance or maybe ignorance of the Union concerned.

I think you still miss the point of timing.
The country is in crisis, thousands will loose their jobs and they want more money. I am not disputing the fact the Rail bosses are greedy, I actually agree with you but I dont see why someone should think they will get more at this particular moment in time. Remmeber many of the people being put out of work will be commuters so revenue will drop not increase.

the credit crisis has been with us for more than a year now. It is getting worse, of course, but at what point do you think it crossed from 'ok for bosses to hand themselves massive bonuses' to 'wicked for staff to take action'? Personally I would have said the bonuses were always wrong, given the poor level of service for which they're being rewarded. Either the way, my point still stands: if workers see bosses getting away with greed, they'll want to try it themselves. If management can't restrain themselves, why should staff? And that's my answer to the original question.
On the disagreement, I tend to agree with the management that safety assessment should be compulsory. The management were quite wrong to rip up existing agreements and impose the new rostas. That is why the union is striking now and not six months ago or six months in the future.
If your employer told you you were working sunday evening from now on, you would not be happy. The banking crisis is totally irrelevant in this case.

When you read the guys like this, the head of Lehman Brothers, took home 300 MILLION dollars in pay and bonuses the last 8 years you can understand why ANY union would be annoyed.

I know it is different industry and all that, but these bosses (in all industries) seem to pay themselves huge bonuses for no reason whatsoever.
