7 Answers
Had an interview with a firm 3 weeks ago, a week later the interviewer called me and told me i would be starting at around this time, she text me yesterday to say that she was "meeting the other directors today and would give me a call straight after, hope you had a good holiday" (which i took as i was starting a new job!!!)
Still no call.......4.45 the next day....ah what do i do, i know that i can phone and say "i would really like the opertunity what is my position" but feels like am being led up the garden path...ive already handed in my resignation, i think am screwed!

Are you able to e.mail the lady and say you apologise for pestering but that you need to make the appropriate arrangements for starting the position (show reliance on what they have said to you).
Hopefully they will reply by e.mail using a company account so that you will have something in writing.

I would merely add that you are working to the companies timescale, not yours. I appreciate that it is the most important thing on your agenda, but it doesn't necessarily means it is quite so important on theirs (lots of other things going on). Do phone them up and ask what is happening, as Jenna suggests.
I hope it works out for you.
It is best never to resign from the existing job until the new one is in place, in a written job offer letter.

I recruit for an organisation, and if this happened in our team - it would be unacceptable. I would call her tomorrow rather than email and would be honest with her about the fact that you thought you had been offered a position and that you have handed your notice in with your current employer. Hope you get the role!
Had to take a night job in the meanwhile to get me through,,.the director text me last thu to say she would get in touch with me yesterday..still no word. To be honest i dont think ii should bother with them in i do indeed ever receive a call...very unprofessional why would she keep stringing it along!!!
I would be a bit wary of an interviewer/potential employer who 'texts' you about your application. It doesn't exactly scream professionalism. Personally, I would call to find out what the result of the meeting with the directors was. I'd make note of the fact she said she'd contact you straight after but you hadn't heard yet.
