Kitten Food!

Does anyone know if there's any good/compelling reason to feed kitten specific food labled 'for kittens' ie whiskers Kitten? When I had a kitten when I was younger we just fed her normal cat food - special kitten food didn't exist but this time round I've found myself automatically buying kitten food which is not only more expensive (who knows why!) but doesn't come with as much choice. The only difference I can tell is that the chunks of 'meat' (being as they're all only 4% meat I dread to think what the chunks are!) is in smaller chunks.
I'm pretty sure my kitten could cope with the bigger chunks anyway - silly kitten licks all the jelly/gravy off anyway and saves the chunks for later anyway!

Hi there! i think that kitten food is made specifically for the energy and health needs of young cats - providing slightly higher levels of fats and other essential vitamins and minerals which the little critters will need if they are tearing round the house, climbing up curtains and terrorising you at sill y hours of the morning. it is not usually more expensive than other stuff you can buy at the supermarket so i would definately buy it for your kitty. i still buy the odd box of kitten biscuits for my cat (she's now 7!) as she loves the taste and will badger me for them if she knows they are in the house. she particulalry likes the gocat kitten biscuits but they are only given as a treat as i am sure she would be aboiut 20 stone if i fed her them all the time and on demand! i hope your little bundle of fur gives you as much joy and pleasure that my two do. good luck! x

You could say that about any form of commercially produced pet food. Years ago, pets were fed on scraps but advances in scientific processes mean that pets can now be fed on food that is suitable for their age/lifestyle/even breed in some cases. I always consider it appropriate to feed the best you can afford, as many ���'s have been spent formulating pet food to ensure they provide all the necessary nutrients required in growing/adult animals.

Its all marketing b0llocks designed to get gullible pet owners to part with their cash.
Cats are carnivores plain and simple, as long as they are getting meat (from herbivorous animals) they will be fine.

if the chunks are cube shaped.....it's usually soya, which is not meat but vegetable product. Cats & dogs are carnivors and are being cheated of their natural diet with soya

If you look on the "ingredients" bit on the box, there's virtually no difference in the kitten food (except it's in smaller chunks!). I've always just fed mine normal cat food and they've all grown into lovely, healthy cats!

My vet told me that there was no need to keep feeding my kitten on kitten food after he was neutered at 4.5months.
