My mum called me earlier and said it was my dads birthday. I completely forgot about it. I feel really bad now and I haven't got him anything! Mum said we were going to go to Brighton later for a walk along the pier and a meal. Shall I just offer to pay for the meal?

Don't beat yourself up too much... I managed to forget to wish my dads Mrs a happy anniversary even after he reminded me the day before! (I'm notoriously bad with important dates). SOmetimes life gets in the way of these things... Get a card, own up to it and say you're paying for dinner and a nice bottle of champers or something. They're your family and they'll understand if you're not all together there at the moment the same way you would if the roles were reversed.
