On the Medieval Louvre Castle (in Paris under the modern Louvre) most of the stones that were used in it's construct seem to have a heart shape carved into them. Does anyone know what theese mean or what purpose they served?

Possibly mason's marks - in many British castles you can see marks carved in the stones - these were the trademarks of the individual stonemasons, to show how much work each had done

Only a two because it's only a possible and I can't find anything to support it. Also the mark was on pretty much every stone so that mason would have had a lot of work. Stil something I didn't think of, thanks :-)
I've never been there so i don't know, but was it definitely a heart and not a fleur-de-lys which was the symobol of the French royal family.
