Is anyone able to advise me please on whether its worth my mum selling her 250 Alliance & Leicester shares now (share price currently 285p) before they get converted to Santander shares at the end of the week?

Is it worth the hassle of having to deal with the Spanish authorities? She doesn't currently have to do a UK tax return and doesn't want to have to do one in the future, so as I understand, will have to pay 18% tax on dividends to the Spanish authorities. Will this be automatically deducted?
Sharesholders will also have to submit a form to the Sapnish authorities within a month of selling the shares. Is this an easy process?

I am grateful for any advice on this.

Many thanks

I'm not sure if this is right and I'm sure someone will tell me if it isnt, but why do you think you will have to deal with the Spanish authorities? Banco Santander are to be listed on the London Stock Exchange on or around the 14th october. As a LSE listed company your stocks will be converted to Banco Santander and you can buy and sell them at will. I do not think you will need to contact anyone in Spain as you are a UK citizen and have no tax liability in that country. Best thing to do is call a financial adviser or your own bank who will advise you. Hope this helps and does not mislead you.
