Has anyone travelled transatlantic economy with UA and is it as bad as the reviews I've read on the net? I'm travelling on their B777 London - Chicago.

I've travelled UA economy on a number of occasions - usually to/from Newark. Never had any problems at all.
I flew the same route with them over christmas, I thought they weren't as good as BA and def not as good as virgin (my favourite!) but not that bad. they had tv screens in the seat backs at least. unlike lufthansa who were really crap - horrid food too - but the crew were nice!
I just got back from America and flew all my flights with united.  The international / transatlantic flights are good especially if you can get assigned a seat in the first 15 rows but if not ask for bulkhead seats the food is ok and the movies are shown constantly, the crew are nice - not in your face but there if you need them.  As for the domestic flights thats different they have a different set up with the Ted flights and they need some work but if you can get into economy plus you'll be ok. have a nice trip.
