32 hour week

hi about 3 weeks ago we were told by letter at work that things were slow, so our hours have been cut from 40hrs to 32hrs,that means we would finish half hour early mon to fri to accomidate things,my question is our boss came to us today n said we have to work this friday cuz were busy as a one off ,can he make us work,many thanx mark

If i was you i would to keep in his good books or you could be the first down the road if worst come to worst

But no he cant make you do overtime thats if he changed your working hour contract

i wouldn't want to be the one who adds up at your place - if you are doing 1/2 hour less each day for 5 days then that is 2.5 hours less over a week isn't it? that makes a working week of 37.5 hours, not 32. If you are getting paid for 32 hours you are being conned

Sometimes a contract will spacify aqbout overtime if it is optional or compulsory...

However If my hours had been cut I think I would be gratefull for the extra.
