prague in early october

Hi everyone: Going to Prague for the first time, Any advice on what not to miss and what kind of weather I should expect? Thanks in advance

Don't miss the castle, Charles Bridge (try get your portait drawn - some great artists there at low prices), the Old Town squares and alleys, the cafes (oooh the cafes), the beer, the torture implements museum (really - on the way from the bridge to the castle). Try get a blacklight show in if you can get one at a reasonable price. Every time you see a church go in - you would not believe the interiors of even the humblest looking exterior.

The weather will be cool enough, so bring a jumper and a scarf, but you shouldn't freeze. Obviously cooler near the river and at night, but there's always a handy bar/cafe/ restaurant nearby.

There are a few things to miss though - comes with the territory. Avoid the boat trips hawked by the Africans in sailor outfits - if you want a trip go to the castle side of the river and look for the signs on the island park to the left of Charles Bridge, twice the length for far less money. (The cafes/restaurants there are best too, and cheap).
You'll be sick to the back teeth of puppet sales... and watch out for ridiculous classical concerts that are hugely over priced, aimed at tourists (you should get a good deal through your hotel instead if that's your thing).

The main square at night is NOT to be missed - the gothic spires are amazing.

Yes, go here for a meal, if you think the view looks good from the picture you should try it at night when the bridge is all lit up, it's beautiful and fantastic good and service for very reasonable prices..

Go to Obechne Dum (the Municipal House) for coffee & cake. You'll get cheaper elsewhere but the stting is unbeatable.

Hey Kimsmum

I went to Prague late September last year and I would advise you to take warm clothes and a comfy pair of trainers. I'd throw in a waterproof too.

The metro system is wonderfully easy to use, clean and reasonably priced, but no substitute for walking around the city.

Take a walk to the Castle but do be prepared to pay to get into the inner reaches. If you dont want to pay its worth a look anyway if just for the astounding views.

And from a girly point of view - get yourself into the mac shop at the bottom of Wenceslas and get a free makeover!

Seen all the main tourist attractions in Prague the castle, palace etc
Most places easy to walk to if you want to give your feet rest jump no a tram!
took a trip to Sedlec Ossuary outside Prague long bus trip when on a tour worth it though unbelieveable!
Wouldn't recommend the Communist museum, found it a bit boring but then again i didn't really know much about their history
If love art especially Art Nouveau visit the Mucha Museum

if in doubt where any of the tourist places are just ask someone or show them where you are trying to go with a leaflet or map even if they can't speak english they try to help most are friendly!
