You could try something like Q-Pulse. I've used it in two companies, and whilst it was totally useless in a small company environment, it works a treat in large companies, or, as in your case, where a team is spread over several bases.

It is, however, restricted in the amount of freedom you have to change forms etc, and has very much an 'off the shelf' feel, but it's as good as I've seen. Not cheap initially mind.
