Teaching Sssistant and onwards
2 Answers
I'm hoping to start training to become a Teaching Assistant with a course at college, with my future plans to take this on to becoming a Primary School Teacher whilst hopefully working full time in a school environment. Has anyone any advice as to the viability of this route. Your advice/thoughts/tips will be very much appreciated.

Do you have a degree? I think you need one to be become a teacher. If not, you'll need to do a degree then a PGCE or a quicker route is a BEd degree

chillipepper there have been TAs at the school I work at who have, through the school's funding, managed to complete a degree course. However none of them have taken it further with a PGCE. I don't believe they were given the opportunity.
It took them a good few years as it was only once a week at college and anyone at my school now would be very lucky to find the similar funding or time off.
If you do have the degree it may be a good idea to just do the PGCE in a year , get it done and you are there.
Good luck!
