How do I find out who works for a particular firm?

Hi There! Is there any way I can find out the names of the employees on the payroll of a certain firm, without actually physically going there and asking? It is for CSA purposes.

You could phone the company and ask to speak to the person.

I know that the person works there but I don't know if he's 'on the payroll' He may be paid cash in hand or on a self-employed basis.

do you work for the CSA and maing an official enquiry on their behalf? If so, arent there procedures in place for this?
If not - why not leave it to the CSA who can do this legwork for you?

I think this may be unethical but you could write to the employer, say the person has applied for a job and ask for a reference.

Why do you want to know if the employee is on the payroll?

I'd say, officially, no! it's covered by the Data Protection Act. the CSA will be able to make their own enquiries if you supply them with the info you have.

bednobs - No I don't work for the CSA and they do not have the organizational skills to help me. (That's putting it nicely!)
Corbyloon - I need to find out as my self-employed, extremely wealthy ex husband has been (through the CSA) paying �10 per week for the last 5 yrs, as maintenance for our son. He now is working within a firm and if I know for sure that he is an employee, then the CSA will actually be able to track him via his payroll. This situation is such that he could be working for them still on a self-employed basis (which will not help) or it could be cash-in-hand, (Which will not help either)

if he's self-employed the tax office should have his CIS vouchers. of course, they still won't tell you, but would probably have to tell the CSA.
