I was assaulted at work and off sick for a considerable time. My employers give sickness insurance rather than sick pay. The insurance company have not yet paid me despite my assailant (a client of my company) being convicted . The insurer is asking I attend a medical for sickness I had now months ago. Any advice please?

Hmm. Sorry, I know nothing about sickness insurance but I do know you have to follow company procedure if they are paying, or you are claiming, any sort of company 'benefit'.

You have to attend the medical.
Are you saying that they haven't paid you anything for the period you were absent from work? I would be surprised if that is legal in the UK since as a matter of course you'd be entitled to sick pay.

If on the other hand the sickness insurance you refer to is to top up basic sick pay to a normal week's wage then sorry, I know nothing. I wouldn't have thought the assailant being convicted would, in itself, make any difference. If he slapped you once he could be convicted for assault but it wouldn't necessarily mean you weren't fully fit for work five minutes later. I would have thought the insurance would depend on an assessment of your injuries rather than his guilt.
Check your household insurance, you may be covered for expert legal advice on this.
