A period of a day is taken as a microcosm of a persons life
In the Morning (infancy) we crawl on our hands and knees (four feet)
At midday (adulthhood), we walk upright and hence are on two feet
In the evening (Beginning of old age) we use a walking stick and hence have three "feet"
In th evening we are inform and bedridden and hence cannot walk.
I have to say that I have never seen this classical riddle in four parts, usually it is four legs morning, two legs afternoon and three legs at night.
