There are some beautiful villages around East and West  Dorset, but please don't think you will find the sort of peace and quiet you have been use to - or even the size of property - unless you have pots of money. Poole is lethally expensive!

I live in Poole but cannot afford to even 'look' at the area In A Pickle has mentioned!

I would be inclined to look for property around Corfe Mullen, Merley, Stapehill, Canford Magna or  Blandford and Wimborne. All these places give you easy access  to Poole but have a more  countryside 'village' appeal that you require. Good Luck!!

Re nice areas to live in Poole, thank you for your replies,we will not be coming till next year as we have to renovate the farmhouse,I have been looking at bungalows around the villages,we hope to be able to get one around 200000 pounds or less as we are on age pension and can,t get a mortgage.I have 3 cats and a Kelpie dog to bring,we will board them here for a month while we fly over to buy our bungalow,as it will be hard to rent with animals

Does anyone know of cheap accommodation wher we can stay while looking for a place to live,I fancy Corfe Mullen, are the houses going down,Thanks for all the info

pensioners,and can,t get a mortgage.

Strangely enough, the going rate for bungalows in Poole itself is around 220,000. There are whole tracts of the town that could be called 'Bungalowland', though they have names such as Oakdale and Longfleet. Prices in surrounding villages are similar or higher.

The local 'freebie' newspaper, 'The Advertiser', publishes a property supplement every Thursday. If you write to them at Richmond Hill, Bournemouth, BH2 6HH enclosing some postage payment, I'm sure they will happily send you a copy.  From that, you should get a good idea of what's available, where and at how much. Their website is www.thisbournemouth.co.uk Good luck in your search.

This is a list of all the Poole Estate Agents with their properties for sale. Just type in your  requirements:
