Why is the sports section a completely different set up to the rest of the site?

It was set up as a 'tester' with the view that the rest of AB might follow. At one point a beta AB was in operation with some of the same functions as the Sports Section, but it failed miserably and didn't work properly and disappeared eventually. The Sports Section however remained the same and apparently hardly gets used now (it used to be one of the most popular topics on AB)

I would definatly post more in sport if it was the same format as the rest of AB, it takes too long to do anything in the beta :S

I was seeing questions for it and when I went to it, it was like I'd entered another site altogether.
Not sure I like it much.
Don't scr*w around with the format please. It scares me.

It hasn't alway been separate and different. It was once fully part of AB and was very busy and interesting. It was separated presumably to generate specific advertising and make more money.

Unfortunately the users hated it and it didn't work properly for a long time. A lot of the users gave up and went away, and the Sports site is very poorly used now.

Their have been many calls to re-incorporate it back into AB, but that would mean they would have to admit they made a mistake, so it never has been.

If the sports section was tidied up a bit it would be fine.

It has a one-to one messaging facility along with the option to include avatars.

However, it seem to be the poor relation to AnswerBank.
