cancelled direct debit for gym and now in trouble!

i cancelled the direct debit for my gym membership that ive had for almost 3 years as i can no longer afford it. ive now had a letter saying i should have given 2months notice and pay a late payment fee of �35 and 2months membership as well. i just dont have the money for this i have a IVA already and dont have that kind of cash to spare HELP!!

For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.I think that gym memberships are automaticly put on yearly contracts unless you cancel. Thia would have been in the terms and conditions you had when you started as well as the cancelation policy.
If you can add it to your iva or contact them and make arrangements to pay it off at x amount per month untill paid.

I also had a gym membership and stopped the DD after 12 mths. After about 2 months I received a letter asking me to make the missed payments. I wrote back stating that my contract was only for 12 months, and I would not be renewing my membership. Never heard anything since. They may be trying it on , check your contract.
