We completed the buying process at the end of March and the property is now ours.  Do we have to contact the relevant people for taxes or do they contact us?  also we are rennovating the property and it is currently not suitable for living in, will we still have to pay?   sorry theres 2 points but i have never bought property before and need advice.  thanks :o)

To answer your first question, you have to contact them.  If you don't you may enjoy many months of not paying council tax but when they find you, they make you pay through the nose!

Lucas is correct on the first question.

If the house is unoccupied then the owner has to pay 50%, under most local authorities. You will of course still have to pay where you are living.
