I recently watched the psychological horror film "Gothika". It was an excellent film but i am puzzled by the film title; as there is no reference to anyone or anything that goes by the name of "Gothika" in the flim. Does anyone know why the film is called this? Please help! I can't stop thinking about it!

Hmm - I'd be a little dubious of that site, especially as it says "The closest you are going to come is 'Gothik', which is a British spelling of 'gothic'." Although the phonetic spelling of 'gothic' in the dictionary is 'goth-ik', I'm quite sure that the word always ends with a 'c' (unless this is a reference to an obscure early spelling? I don't have my OED handy at the moment).

Yep, you are correct DebMich - it's probably more likely of German derivation.  Either way, the point still remains that the word Gothika is basically meaningless.
