i am going to malaysia later this year with my boyfriend. has anyone got any advice on places to go, visit or stay? we are going to have 3 days in Kuala lumpa but then have 2 weeks free for travelling....?? am thinking rainforest, quiet beaches and sunsets!!

I think you might have that city mixed up with a Charlie and the Chocolate Factory character.
Go northwest for a couple of days, through Brunei, then head over to KL.

not sure about that answer. i understood the question to mean you were starting in KL. I think 3 days is maybe a day too long for the city as you can do the main sites in 1/2.

personally i loved the perhentian islands on the east coast (kota bharu is the best point to arange onward travel to the islands). thoughas the east coast is predominantly muslim, alchohol is scarce. so if you wanna booze head to the west coast. on the other hand if you like diving and generally chilling out in very simple accomodation i can recommend it.

with 2 weeks you can get the train across to the west coast with a couple of nights stop in the jungle interior which, by all accounts, is awesome and well worth it.

hi there, i'm from Malaysia. I have some suggestion. Maybe u can travel to Langkawi Island (An island in Malaysia). Beautiful beach... sunset... and a lots more there... further more .. u can buy a lot cheap stuff in the island because its a "duty free" island, which mean u can buy stuff (eg cigarrates and wine) without paying the TAX (same as VAT in UK). Very relaxing island. Highly recommend u to this island.

well i am quite nervous as i have only booked a hotel in KL. do you think we will be ok travelling around and finding accomodation as we go or should i book somewhere? i would love to meet some local people and want to stay away from big resorts. would be great to stay somewhere on a beach in little �huts� but i dont know if they exist there? will look up the island you mentioned - what coast is it on ad where do you think we should go from there? thanks!

May i know the date u arrive malaysia? if it happen during Malaysia school holidays or public holidays.. i will advise u to make booking of ur accommodation first...

if not mistaken, u can go Pulau Langkawi by taking Bus from KL to Kuala Kedah. It takes about about 6hours journey. Then from Kuala Kedah to Pulau Langkawi by taking "speed boat" (about 1 hour).

Another alternative is to buy a ticket fly from KL to Pulau Langkawi. its only an hour journey. Can find out more from Malaysia Airlines and AirAsia (cheaper).

Regarding the little "huts"... Yup.. they exist in this island as well!! Price is quite cheap.. but i never stay in this type of accomodation before when i visited this place. =)
