Assuming you can't get rid of it to neighbours, you are going to need either a skip or a grab lorry. It depends how much you have got to get rid of. If you can get it piled up within about 10 feet of the path a grab lorry will normally get it and is quite often cheaper than hiring a skip, but I'm afraid you will have to ring round for quotes. Try looking in Yellow pages under 'Skips' and 'Plant & Machinery Hire'.
Could you add it to the lower part of your garden? You would have less to dig and would not need to get rid of it at all.
watch some old war films, they will show you how the soil from the tunnels was disposed of.you could then do the same
dig a hole and bury it!

Try putting an ad in your local supermarket - "free to take away". Topsoil is quite expensive to buy, and difficult to do so in fairly small quantities.

If you have to go the skip route, I have seen a scheme in Homebase where you buy a huge bag & collection is included in the price, could be cheaper than a skip if you have less than a skipfull.
