Last try to get an answer to this one as I have to post it today.
1. Permit loses 50 to get argon.

Permit = Allow.
50 = L in Roman Numerals.
Argon symbol is Ar.
There's a football team called something like Alloar Athletic. Don't know how to spell it.

Thanks, Tallulah, the town you mean is Alloa. And that would mean taking away the W instead of one of L, which is the symbol for 50. This has me really stumped and I don't like to be beaten, so hopefully I'll get it today

Did you check synonyms for permit. Can only think of allow and let for permit in that context.
