Can anyone suggest any companies or charities that will collect and dispose of a good quality 3 piece suite. While I wouldnt want anything for it, I dont want to pay to have it removed

First of all, check your sofa to find out which fire labels it has - if they are too out of date, no charity will be able to do anything with them (unfortunately).

Secondly, when we lived in Northampton, we telephoned the council who gave us the number of a women's refuge. We called them up and they were glad of it, collecting it the next day - so I suggest you try your local council.

Locally, our Lion's Club collects and redistibutes furniture.

There is an organisation in Bristol (and I presume similar elsewhere) called the Sofa Project which could help you.

Some free ads magazines have a "free to collector" page.

Try a card in your local supermarket - free to take away.

We just had exactly the same problem with a very large and heavy set of bookshelves.

We advertised them on ebay, stating that the buyer was to collect and the area we live in.

We ended up getting �70 quid for them, AND someone willing to come and take them away....Not bad.

You could try www.freecycle.org where you can place an advert for someone to come and collect it. This seems to be quite good for London, but a bit more random for the rest of the country, but might be worth a try.

If you by any chance live in the Birmingham, Nottingham or Derby area there's a charity called Betel who will take your furniture (as long as it's fire retardant).
