Would an unwed teenage couple have been allowed to stay in a hotel room together in Edwardian England? ?
It might sound like a silly question,but its for a novel that i am writing. She is pregnant with his kid, and they run away together. They are upper class couple and he has some money so they go to a hotel and stay together then the staff cotton on to the fact that they are not married and refuse them anymore board. They try other hotels and get the same thing. I was wondering whether this is a likely attitude or whether hotels were desperate enough to make money that they would ignore things like that.
They will need to get kicked out though so that the story can move on.

I can't give you a sensible answer, but I am told on good authority that "they were always at it in those days", so not sure where they would be able to do it. I think I would have liked it there.
Yes, I am led to believe agree with the above post saying some hotels will not led unwed couples stay in the same room. If they refuse service to a gay or lesbian couple who are married they can be sued for discrimination.
