MM Links Solutions November 2008 [Week 1]
9 Answers
The first week in any reign can be problematical in terms of a paucity of points and this first week of Sir Strix the Stargazer was no exception. As I bring Round One of the competition to a close, I can now reveal the chosen links based on the theme of Pyrotechnics were:
SAFE Cracker
Penny DREADFUL
Roman HOLIDAY
Gun COTTON
As with last month, all Links were found (eventually), but points were thin on the ground!

For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.The title of Stargazer adopted by Sir Strix reminded me of the Cornish delicacy of Stargazey Pie in which the fish contents are left with their heads on and poking through the pastry crust! I could imagine you all stitched up with your little heads sticking out!
I was asked by seekeerz Where I did I find him? I cannot give an answer to that ~ but he certainly is unique! I know that he will be concerned at the results to follow and will try to rectify the situation next week. His absence from the Shrubbery was noticed, but he was travelling up to share in the pyrotechnics at his sons school. He didnt want it mentioned in case it gave you too many clues! NOTHING could have prepared you for what was to follow.
The floodgates opened at 09.01 but it was Entrant #8 in the form of former champion gen2 who was bang on with PENNY DREADFUL for TWO POINTS. No one else considered this option throughout the game! In fact, as you will see, most of the scorers were former MM Champions!
Youll see what I mean when I tell you that at 09.03 Entrant #15 was ulysses100 with a repeat of PENNY DREADFUL and the new GUN COTTON to score FOUR POINTS and take the title of HOT SHOT OF THE WEEK. You may recall that <Ulysses was last months setter (proving that these two players think along similar lines).

With the same time registered, Christiana claimed double points for the very same Penny Dreadful. Three minutes later, cliffyg (inspired by namesake Cliff Richard) entered singing Were all going on a ROMAN HOLIDAY and scored TWO POINTS.
The clock ticked on and at 14.06, former champion ladyalex made an explosive entrance with SAFE CRACKER to claim the last link and another TWO POINTS. She was Entrant #34 and the game was coming to a close, but not before Mrs Ont-ice picked up the only other point scored with Roman Holiday! This would rocket her into sixth place.
The League Table after this first week is:
FOUR POINTS: <ulysses100
TWO POINTS: Christiana, cliffyg, gen2 & ladyalex
ONE POINT: Mrs Ont-ice
Everyone else is equal 7th
Welcome to newcomer taize (first out of the blocks!)
I cannot wait to see what Sir Strix the ????? has in store for us next week. Can he do the business and turn on the flow of points? Will it be Deal or No Deal? Will his Golden Balls have Split or Steal? Whatever, I am off to find out who has survived Strix-ly Come Dancing.
Until next weekend, this is crofter signing off for another week.
See you next Saturday: Same time Same place Same Strix
Until then: HAPPY LINKING!

I don't believe it !!! Many thanks to Strix for the link words -- I bet you couldn't believe the rush of answers into your "in box" at the start of the fray, and to see how your well thought out links just disappear, but then also think that there should have been many other points scored. Let us see what happens over the ensuing weeks. Again thanks to crofter for his always punning ways.
Until next week then...............

Thanks Strix & crofter - that was a surprise result.
Well done ulysses100 - when the points are thin on the ground, that was an excellent score.
After the dreadful rate of scoring this week, I think I'll play it safe and take a holiday to recharge my batteries so that I cotton on more readily to Strix's way of thinking.
