Should women (or people in general, for that matter) wear a wedding ring at all times if they are married?

Let me explain why the question:
I have a few friends around for a few days as my best friend is getting married next weekend (and this is a pre stag party, week with boys and girls).
Anyway, whilst watching TV over the past few days, we have suddenly noticed (due to the subject of why were all together) that more and more married celebrity (all be it, some of them are B, C & Z list celebs.) women don't wear wedding rings (on tele or whilst in public).

For instance we first noticed it with Claudia Winkleman on Strictly Come Dancing's It Takes Two, then Jordan on a chat show the other night and now we've just noticed Sarah Palin.... who is trying to become the most powerful woman in the world!!!
Maybe it's just us, be we feel that wearing a wedding ring is the most sacred (tangible) thing between you and another.
It's understandable when doing things like swimming, or something where it might catch on something or even, I guess, if an actress is playing the part of someone single (although there is an argument there too, I guess don't play the part?!) .....come on, even Angelina Jolie who's married to a guy most commonly called "the sexiest man alive" hardly wears ever wears one in public??!!
(I have to say really not a fan, but hats of to Victoria Beckham on this subject married to one of the most famous men on earth, and always proud to show it)

We totally understand the argument of "I don't need to wear a piece of jewellery, to know that I'm married and how my heart feels", but on the other hand I know so many people (men and women) who say that "they feel naked without it". At the end of the day I think if you love someone enough to marry them in the first place why not want to wear a ring?!

Or is it the latest fad not to wear one?!

Anyway,

Hi surf - sorry, I really thought you were joking about the weather!

It's been an awful overcast day here in South Bedfordshire & we now have that very fine rain that gets in everywhere! We also got caught in a heavy downpour yesterday - but had a laugh dodging the puddles back to the car!

We keep on trucking though! ;o}

Paris here I come.....how can I refuse all those stags;))

All very interesting stuff.Good and logical answers.

I 've been married for 48 years, and do not have a wedding ring.Have never thought it that important to me.

But haven't any other jewellery either.

Sad case or what?

Chickadee, thought they weren't!

Have they had a fake wedding to make everyone think they have?
Been married 4 times and never felt the need for rings. Don`t wear any other jewelry either. Hi Brenda! Not sad at all, just don`t like constrictions on the skin.

I dislike jewellery and have never worn a wedding ring. I don't have a single piece of jewellery and never will.

No point in gilding the lily. :)
What gets me are the guys that wear engaement type bands, either these chaps are so chastised by there ladies or pure idiots!!!
.Cheers Ethel,
Good to know I'm not the only one.
I know a few women who dont wear their wedding rings. I wear mine, but it`s a personal choice. I know of someone who borrowed a wedding ring from one of the guests just for the ceremony.
