The other day I had need to visit my local shopping mall, the entrance is very much higher than street level. One has a choice to climb the numorous steps or the walk up the winding gradual incline. I chose to use the incline since I have extreme walking difficulties and need the aid of a walking stick, and because I could also hold onto the side rail.
I was part way up this incline when I encountered a young woman coming towards me pushing a buggy. She refused to alter her course and wheel her buggy around me consequently I was forced to remove my grasp on the hand rail and walk around her.
What is it with most young women of today, they seem to have an attitude? I have encounted this problem on numerous occasions, be it if they are pushing a buggy or a shoppping trolley, one has always to give way to them.
Plus..........you chose (your words) to use the ramp instead of the stairs, which also will have had a hand-rail...........
Can't quite understand your post, except to say being an old person, with walking difficulties it is much easier to traverse a gradual incline, than climb stairs, even if the stairs also has a hand rail.
My pet hate with pram pushers is when they walk in groups, side by side blocking the whole pavement and will not move to let anyone past.I have been forced onto the road many times because of this.
I also have another pet hate where buggies/prams are concerned-idiot drivers who park on pavements leaving no room to push a pram(or wheelchair) on the pavement, meaning you then have to put your baby at risk by pushing the pram on the road.
Can I also just point out that pushing a buggy downhill is actually quite difficult, especially if it is fully laden with shopping as well as a baby or toddler, you have to be very careful that the momentum doesn't pull the buggy from your grip and send it hurtling at speed down the incline.
And as a former buggy user, it is far easier to use an incline than bump a buggy down a set of stairs..............especially if it is fairly heavily laden, (for details see daffy654's post).
I have had to do both in the past(fairly recently too) jackthehat and I agree that bumping a pram down steps is very hard.I once had to negotiate many (199)steps in Whitby(St Mary's Church) with a pram and a toddler clinging on to me and believe me that is not an experience I would wish on anyone!!!
For many years now I have lived in a village which has a steep hill that has to be traversed to get to the supermarket,it is much easier to push a pram up the hill than down it!
