travel to the USA by sea?

i am scared of flying (please dont provide me with stats as to how safe it is). i would like to travel to the USA, but by boat. is this possible? if so i would imagine it is expensive?

Yes there are still transatlantic sailings - look at Cunard.

Freighter is also possible - but it's not cheap. On a daily rate it may not be (quite) as expensive as cruise liners but it takes twice as long.

Yes it's expensive is the bottom line.
either by cruise ship or freighter as others have pointed out. You pay, in money and in the time it takes, for not being squeezed into a sardine can for eight hours. (I'm just talking about New York here.)

Have you considered going on a fear of flying course, or just getting your GP to prescribe some tranquillisers or sleeping pills?
I hate flying too. GP's can prescribe some pretty good pills for this type of thing.
It is called a Cruise Ship - there are repositioning cruises to the USA in Oct/Nov each year - out of Southampton with RCI or out of Harwich with Celebrity. Check out their websites.
