I may be wrong but I think it that fruit have seeds. But as with anything there are always exceptions that prove the rule
Seeds - if its got a pip or seeds its a fruit if not its a veg
Like a tomato is a fruit cus it has seeds! But im sure there are prob some exceptions! Like with most rules!
Does that make Mr Debbz a vegetable then? He's seedless... ;-)
You know it's a fruit if you choke on a little white sticker!
Thats odd! Debbz! Didnt see yours and we wrote practically the same!
A banana is a herb!!
Spooky that lubecki
Graham norton is a fruit whereas Stephen Hawkins is a vegetable.
It's complex. Just use each conventionally or get inventive.

Just sampling a rhubarb and kidney pie, followed by tomato crumble and custard should soon stop most people pondering such matters.
I thought fruits came from flowering/blossoming plants.

what about peas? are they not classed as seeds? you can plant them and they grow
but potato plants flower and runner beans
Question Author
i cannot believe a babanna is a herb your having me on there
But the flower doesn't actually develop into the 'fruit' on a potato plant as the flower on cherry tree develops into a cherry,I have no idea about runner beans though.lol
I can honestly say it isn't something i've given much though to!
Dictionary definition:

FRUIT:The ripened ovary of a flowering plant that contains the seeds, sometimes fused with other parts of the plant. Fruits can be dry or fleshy. Berries, nuts, grains, pods, and drupes are fruits. Fruits that consist of ripened ovaries alone, such as the tomato and pea pod, are called true fruits. Fruits that consist of ripened ovaries and other parts such as the receptacle or bracts, as in the apple, are called accessory fruits or false fruits
Usage To most of us, a fruit is a plant part that is eaten as a dessert or snack because it is sweet, but to a botanist a fruit is a mature ovary of a plant, and as such it may or may not taste sweet. All species of flowering plants produce fruits that contain seeds. A peach, for example, contains a pit that can grow into a new peach tree, while the seeds known as peas can grow into another pea vine. To a botanist, apples, peaches, peppers, tomatoes, pea pods, cucumbers, and winged maple seeds are all fruits. A vegetable is simply part of a plant that is grown primarily for food. Thus, the leaf of spinach, the root of a carrot, the flower of broccoli, and the stalk of celery are all vegetables.
