One reason is that they are recording your replies in case of abuse, and the other reason is, that it's not nice to swear at anyone.

I got so fed up with the unsolicited calls and even despite joining the telephone preference service kept getting them so I have just had calls barred from withheld numbers. Oh joy, it hasn't rung all morning. Well worth the �4 a month just for the peace and quiet!
