Iam in the process of interview etc to work for a bank.
They have advised me that they need my last 5 years worth of addresses so they can get a credit reference?
What does this involve? What does it show ? and will this show on m credit file as a Credit search?
Many thanks

hi Harryt, good luck with the job. They will ask a company to do a credit search for them, rather in the same way yu can look at your own credit file through a company like experian. they will be able to see what your credit is like, if you are in default, if you have any ccj's etc, just like you can. they need to know because its a risk if you employ someone with money problems in a financial institution. you have to be whiter than white - after all, you would expect your bank teller to be good with mney, and not tuck your cash deposits into her knickers in order to pay off her own debts!
as for your last question, i'm afraid i don't know
Hi Harry,

It definitely won't show as a credit search on your credit report. I'm positive.

Don't worry, in the last 2 years, I've had 3 credit checks made by 3 different employers, I've moved houseshare 4/5 times in the period, I didn't have a landline phone for the 1st check and wasn't registered on the electoral roll till after the 3rd check, and I passed all of the checks.

Only trouble was convincing the 1st employer that I've never had a credit card in my life (in my family they are viewed as absolutely evil!): because I come from overseas, they thought I might have outstanding debts over there!

When I was working in that company, I had colleagues who had really bad credit card debt, and it seemed a bit unfair that HR had made such a fuss about hiring me, because if those people had been job applicants, they wouldn't have been hired.

Much more scary was the reference check for my present job: they used Verifile to check all my work references for the past 5 years (including 3 years abroad), and my 'academic' references abroad. They contacted the school I left 15 years ago to ask them if they remembered me!!!

I had to wait 2 weeks for the result, and I was really worried I might not get the job. I carried on applying for other jobs, and taking tests, and booking interviews (while working F/T in a company I didn't like at all and which was financially unsecure), and all the time I really had my heart set on this job I'd been offered!

Good luck!
